In addition to my computer background, I have two main hobbies in
my life. Probably because the computer is critical to both.

Home Automation

When I moved into my current home, I became enthralled with a software package named XTension. In short, we have a Macintosh Computer that controls our lighting, wakes us up in the morning, verbally alerts us to movement in and around the house and monitors the weather. After years of writing scripts that are triggered by time, light and motion sensors the set-up is very mature and works very well.

Storm Chasing

If you’ve ever watched the Discovery Channel’s “Storm Chasers” series and saw pictures of tornadoes, you’ve probably seen some of the footage I’ve videotaped. Yes, I’m one of those odd people who gets a thrill out of getting close to a monster storm with the hope of actually seeing the rare and elusive tornado. I’ve been very lucky over the past few years to have seen multiple tornadoes and can’t wait for the next opportunity to drive to the “Plains States” for another encounter.

I affectionately refer to my vehicle as the “iJeep” as I have a “Mac mini” permanently installed within, as well as a touch screen mounted on the dash, multiple amplified wireless antennas for access to the internet and thus color weather radar via specialized software.
